Thoughts on December 31, 2007

Another year has come and gone
Did it go by faster, or am I wrong
The coming times are sure uncertain
The world has changed
For many it's a burden
In my little corner of this planet
Where sunflowers grow real tall
I look to the future and know I'm in it
But how much longer I don't know at all
The rocks and trees
The sky and breeze
Is in a song I wrote long ago
It tells about a world where we
are all one but I don't see
That others share my point of view
I know my song is not new
It has been sung many times before
If others don't sing with us soon
The rocks and trees will be here alone
They won't mind, will you

Went to the dentist in Mexico

I had never been out of the country, really, until our day in Palomas, Mexico to go to the dentist. It was a 4+ hour drive and not a bad trip. Went down the interstate after leaving home at 4am. Came back through the Gila and was beautiful as ever. Okay, so David and I are standing in front of some guitar player, duh, outside of La Tienda Rosa (The Pink Store). They had shopping and dining of which we only did the latter. The other statue is Pancho Villa. I would much rather visit Palomas than to go to Juarez and sorry, Texans, El Paso.

All in all a good day and we made it safely back into the good ol' USA!

Happy Winter Solstice

Wishing everyone a very happy winter solstice from Sunflower! It is a cold and blowy winter's day here on Rainwalker Mesa but it is nice to be celebrating the solstice and the welcoming of longer days. May the Universe Bless you in all you do.

Nichole's Shawl

This is a scarf or more accurately, a shawl, for my future daughter in law. It is pretty tightly woven and didn't turn out as I expected but it is so soft and will be very warm around her neck and shoulders. I won't get to send it until christmas eve but she will get it in time for the cold Arkansas winter!

Beautiful Snow

It snowed and I love it. I would move to Alaska just to have all the snow I could ever want but I like it here too much. And ain't it beautiful? I went out and took these pics just as the sun was coming up in my P.J.s and boy was it cold. I think our lowest has only been 5 degrees with wind chill factors about -5.
I love watching the snow fall the most but I like it to stick to the ground and last a while and this one has. We have had it for a week now and it is supposed to warm up (which is nice too) and then another front is coming thru just in time for the Solstice and Christmas.

Tigger loves running water

This is our cat Tigger. He loves this fountain when I remember to plug it in. It is a great water dish though for both the cat and the dog!

Sunrise in September

Sunrise from the porch, coffee in hand. The rooster loves to come around us and he also likes to wake the sun up, loudly! He is a beautiful little fella and we like having him around. He used to be in with the 19 hens but we had too many roosters. So know he is just part of the family. I had a couple of hummers come to the feeder while I was enjoying the view but I couldn't get a good photo. They are fast little dudes.
We didn't have quite as good a show of wild flowers this year as we have in the past but we are enjoying all we got. It is supposed to get down to 36 tonight so they will soon disappear!

Pictures of Vision Quest

The Picture of me in yellow was taken about 3 weeks before the quest but that is where I lived for 48 hours.

The rest are of me taking off from base camp to climb up to the place in SW NM.

I have only ever back-packed one other time so I was glad I didn't have too far to go but it was mostly vertical!

The Alligator Juniper tree and I had a wonderful time together. I learned much from her. Roly is in the first picture with me but he didn't get to go on the quest in case he scared off any animals that wanted to visit. As it was I was mostly visited by birds and insects. I thought I would see elk and deer but it wasn't to happen.

It was a beautiful place and I had a wonderful time. Again, I would recommend this adventure to anyone needing some quiet time to think and reflect on life.

Vision Quest

I went on a vision quest in August for 2 full days and nights. It was a wonderful experience for me and I would recommend it to anyone needing answers, insight or just a great natural experience.

David and Tom move #240 batteries into power room

It was tough and we only dropped one! These are the new batteries for out solar and wind power. They were HEAVY and David made a ramp for pushing them into place because they were too much to lift. They did a great job. I was the cheering section and camara person. I did help keep the ramp from falling apart after that did happen the first time. Scary! Thanks dad for your help!

What a face

This is our dog Roly. We also call him Bubba and about 9 other names when the mood strikes. He likes using rocks for a pillow, go figure...
He is one of my greatest friends in the entire universe.

Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill

I went to San Fransisco for one afternoon while staying a week in San Jose for a conference. While there I got to see some wild parrots that had flown down from Telegraph Hill for some apples that 2 women were feeding them. See the documentary by the same name as my title for this post and you will see why this was such a special treat for me.

Beginning a blog

A picture of a snow fall with the sun just trying to peak out. Taken last December from our west window looking out at Horse Mountain.
