Trout Creek Trail

We went hiking last weekend in the snow. It seemed a little crazy at first since the eldest of us is 76 but it turned out to be a beautiful day and all went well.

We hiked north of Luna, NM along a small creek named after the trout that were not present at least on this early April day.

We went up to see a small cave with a few petroglyphs and this was the view back down to the trail and the creek.

I would like to come back in the summer and check out this little watering hole. It looked like a good place to soak your feet if the weather was right that it...right now it looks a little cold.

The hiking party at a lunch spot. There is still a bit of snow about but for the most part it warmed up nicely and we could actually see the trail on the way out. We had intended to go to another spot to hike but the locals had put up a chain with lock across the road so this turned out to be a good plan B. A good time was had by all.

He does look a little put out but this is one of his favorite morning spots sitting in the sun. It is 28 degrees out and see below for the view!

This is just south of the garden. I told David it was too early to plant potatoes but we'll see if they come up or not.

A close up...that is the bicycle tire in the background...maybe I'll just go for a walk today.

There is more snow in the forecast for the next 2 days. Right now it is sunny and oh, by the way, today is Friday the 13th...I don't think it is unlucky to wake up to snow on the ground even in March when we are a week away from spring.

What a glorious sunset. If someone would have painted this, one would think it their imagination...
You have to click on this to enlarge it, then look just above and to the left of the statue's head. It is 5 degrees outside and sunny but there is a cloud overhead dropping ice crystals out of the sky and what a sight with the sun shining on them. Look through the tree at the "fog" like substance...that is hundreds of ice crystals coming down.
Okay...so this isn't my cat. But we share the same sentiments.
It is now over 10 degrees...whoohoo. The ice crystals are slowing down. Maybe I can get warm enough in front of the wood stove to get dressed now. It is supposed to get to a balmy 28 by this afternoon! Stay warm and be well...

Cozy inside, snowy outside

Yes...I am warm in front of the stove where the fire roars. It is cold and snowy outside.
A view from the window where it is white out there but still warm and toasty in here! Notice the dutch oven on the stove cooking dinner as we watch and smell the wonderful aroma...oh yeah, you can't smell that from your computer! Leg o' lamb roasting on an open...okay, closed fire for Solstice dinner. Yum!
The tree with the birds...in better weather that is. We finally put bird seed out. There has been an abundance of natural food all of autumn. But alas, it is finally winter.

I'm trying

I know I am delinquent in blogging so hopefully this will tide you over. We woke up to snow this am but it is gone already. The time changed and I didn't know it until late in the day. I know... try to keep up! My youngest son got married last weekend and I am still recuperating from the trip. When I get a little more energy I will post some wedding pics! Until then, I feel like this poor kitty!!

Am I wishin for summer?

You know how many times I have said I love snow. We have a 50% chance today and then again Sunday. But doesn't that picture of lilac trees in San Jose in June look inviting??

Well, bring on the snow... I am stuck inside studying anyway. I keep mentioning the studying but if I tell the whole world that I am taking a test does that mean I have to pass it or risk looking like a failure? Probably. Then what am I doing looking at pictures of summer on this perfect winter's day? Be in the present moment and remember what a present it is.

I love snow, I love snow, I love snow....

The faceless monk

At least it's not mud on his face (a big disgrace) but only snow! This pic is still from the last snow we got. Today it is supposed to be 40 but tomorrow it is only predicted to be 29 for a high and -1 for a low with a slight chance of snow...

Today, Terri, Judi, Betty and Debbie are going to Albq (the big city) to go to the Kimo Theatre to see "Menopause the Musical" I will have an update and review in a few days. We are spending the night and doing a little sight-seeing in Old Town. Ought to be pretty groovy for this peri-menopausal woman! We will be back in time for the -1 degree night though so our husbands won't freeze to death!

The snow blew from the west and covered the vehicles despite the "safety" of the carport!

Beautiful Snow

It snowed and I love it. I would move to Alaska just to have all the snow I could ever want but I like it here too much. And ain't it beautiful? I went out and took these pics just as the sun was coming up in my P.J.s and boy was it cold. I think our lowest has only been 5 degrees with wind chill factors about -5.

I love watching the snow fall the most but I like it to stick to the ground and last a while and this one has. We have had it for a week now and it is supposed to warm up (which is nice too) and then another front is coming thru just in time for the Solstice and Christmas.
